Pay Rules for October 31, November 1 and November 7 Holidays

An October 26, 2011 press release from the Department of Labor and Employment

All Saints’ Day (November 1) was declared a special nonworking day by virtue of Proclamation No. 84; October 31 was declared as such under Proclamation No. 265, Series of 2011; while November 7 was declared a regular holiday (Eidul Adha or Feast of Sacrifice) under Proclamation No. 276.

Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda D. Baldoz yesterday reiterated to private-sector employers to observe the correct pay rules and core labor standards during these holidays.

For the October 31 and November 1, the correct pay rules to be observed are as follows:

I. If the said days are worked, an employee is entitled to 130 percent of his daily rate for the first eight hours, and to an additional 30 percent of his hourly rate on the said day for work performed in excess of eight hours.

II. If unworked, he is not entitled to any payment, unless there is a favorable company policy, practice, or collective bargaining agreement (CBA) granting payment for special days even if not worked.

III. Finally, if the day is worked, and it falls on the employee’s rest day, the employee is entitled for the first eight hours to 150 percent of his regular daily rate, and for work performed in excess of eight hours, plus 30 percent of his or her hourly rate on the said day.

For November 7, the rules to be observed are as follows:

I. If the holiday falls on an employee’s regular workday: If Monday, November 7, 2011 is worked , the employee is entitled to 200 percent of his basic wage on the first eight hours and, for work in excess of the eight hours, to an additional 30 percent of his or her hourly rate on the said day. But, if unworked, the employee is entitled to 100 percent of the regular daily rate, provided he was present, or was on leave with pay, on the workday immediately preceding the holiday.

II. If the day is the employee’s rest day: If November 7 is the employee’s rest day and the day is worked, he or she is entitled to 260 percent of his or her daily rate on the first eight hours, plus 30 percent for work in excess of eight hours on the said day. But if unworked, the employee is entitled only to 100 percent of his regular rate, provided he was present, or was on leave with pay, on the workday immediately preceding the holiday.

III. In case the day immediately preceding the holiday is a non-work day in the establishment, or is the scheduled rest day of the employee, the employee shall not be deemed on leave of absence on that day, in which case he or she shall be entitled to the regular holiday pay.

Happy Wednesday! Its time to count our blessings and realize how lucky we are to be alive!

Happiness is:
1. Sembreak for my sister and my kids this coming Friday. Woohoo, no waking up early for them!
2. Going home to Batangas for Undas this coming weekend. We have not been home to visit my father's grave for 3 years already and now that we have a van, we can finally go for a visit.
3. Good health for my family.
4. Borrowed UN costumes and saving for me!
5. IPL for me, thanks to my blogging income.
6. Friends who let you use their credit card, he he. On a 6-month period.
7. My dear friends Ehms and Rona for a get together last Saturday. Whole afternoon and late evening of girl talk over donut, carrot cake, coke and sinigang!
8. When a friend tells you meet at SM and then you go to another branch, she in Megamall and you in Centerpoint, hilarity ensues!
9. Cab fare in half and KKK sa dyip, without awkwardness, that is a tested friendship.
10. Just knowing that you have a family and a group of friends who are just there for you.

How to Apply For A Hearing Aid at PCSO, PART 2

If you may recall, my sister and I had this plan to apply for a hearing aid for my mom from the PCSO. In September, my sister went to PCSO with the initial requirements for a hearing aid. And then she was given a referral slip to a doctor at UST. When we called for an appointment, we were told to present 3 audiological reports and 3 quotations from PCSO-accredited hearing aid centers. When we have completed those requirements, my mom and my sister went to UST and my mom went through another audiological test to confirm the findings of the three other centers. Then my sister was given a recommendation letter which she brought back to PCSO last week. She was there at 7am and was finally able to get an appointment for an interview on November 4. The interview was for my sister only and my mom need go with her. I don't know yet what will be asked during the interview but I am hoping that the PCSO will grant our request. Initially, the hearing aid centers sealed their price quotation and it was only opened at the UST clinic during the medical evaluation and a recommendation made based on those quotations. The prices quoted to PCSO was way below the price quoted to me when I asked the price of those same hearing aids. I also found out that the PCSO will only grant up to P10,000 but that is still going to be a big help on our case.I will just pay the additional money on the price they quoted the PCSO when it is not enough to pay for hearing aids on both ear. I hope that we will finally get some good news when my sister goes to the interview.

Mommy Moments: Mommy's Unforgettable Stories

My life as a mother has lots of unforgettable stories but there is one story that precede all of it and that is our love story. We married young, maybe a year after this picture was taken. He was 19 and I was 20 when we got married and I was already pregnant with our eldest child. And it was a difficult time. I was barely out of college, was just starting work and he was still in school and has no job nor prospects. And it was hard. I tell my kids over and over again to enjoy their life before settling down because it was really not a walk in the park. But never, in almost 14 years of marriage did we think of quitting on each other or in this family. And I think that it is all that matters. Now that the kids are in school and we have steady jobs and mortgage and all that comes with raising a young family, we are still together and going strong. There are trials, no doubt about it, and there are even painful moments but we are still together and loving each other. And with this love for each other, we are able to nurture our kids and this family.
Our story is far from over and but I would like to think that we are almost over the difficult parts. And I am not afraid to make more life stories with my husband by my side. and I know that each one of them will be filled with love.

Dahil dito, nadaragdagan ang problema: nagbabaha dahil ang mga kanal at estero ay nagiging barado sahil sa mga illegal na struktura.
Ito ay isang mapait na katotohanan na hindi lang dapat harapin ng ating pamahalaan kundi marapat din na hanapan ng pangmatagalang solusyon. Subalit sa dami ng pangulo na nangako, minsan, ang hirap na ding umasa na may pagbabagong magaganap. Sana lang ay wag magbuwis ng buhay ang mga tao para lamang dito.

Its midweek and weekend is almost upon us! We survived work and that's one reason to count our blessings! Happiness is:

1. Waking up to my husband's warm embrace
2. My kid's hugs and kisses before they go to school. And when they come back just to give you another kiss!
3. My mom's cooking. A battle rages between my diet and cooking everyday, ha ha. Her cooking always wins.
4. Vangie for her help, as well as Karen, Cathy and Blanda for everything else.
5. Pasalubongs from abroad
6. Remembering that I have an apad, ha ha, and installing pdf and now realizing that I dont need a kindle! Yahoo!
7. My plants. I just love them.
8. Ice cream and chips
9. My sister for helping review the kids
10. Just for being alive and making ends meet.

Thank you Lord for this life and please allow me to count my blessings everyday!

I Heart Faces: Tickled Pink

I know that Ishi is tickled pink to be in Boracay! I know cause I am too! It was another rare time that we were able to pull off a family vacation in Boracay last year and the memories are something that we will cherish as a family forever!

Garage Woes

This morning was not one of my best ones because while I subscribe to the love your neighbor bit and all, I don't I will be able to love this new one. Our new neighbor moved yesterday and he completely blocked our garage door and driveway! That is not a way to endear yourselves to your new neighbors, right? I just learned from my mother in law that they moved in yesterday because there was this big truck on the street with all their stuff and there was a new car parked there as well. But what I don't get is why they had to park right in front of our house and block our exit. My mom said they were having trouble with their own parking inside because of faulty garage door installation by the previous homeowner. I could have forgiven them if they took the time to move their car in the morning when it was time for us, their neighbor to use the spot to exit form their own house and go to work, but hey, we had to knock at their door to ask the, kindly if I may add, to move their car. Anyway, this early morning rant is just because I was late because of that precious few minutes it took to move their car, but when I am in a better mood, I might tell them about garage door installation peoria and end their garage woes and ours too!

Here are just some things that I will consider my favorites. One of them is this office plant which I brought from home and the bottle was recycled from one of my boss' wedding invitation. I have several others at the office because I always want to be surrounded by something green and alive!
This one is from my friend Weng, a gentle reminder to watch my weight. Its actually a thing-a-magig- where you put your wrist when holding the mouse but I have it as a reminder not to pig out all the time, haha!
And this is my point and shoot camera (can you see from the reflection?) which I love to bits! Of course, my dream camera is a Canon DSLR but I wouldn't want to give this one up. And can you see the beautiful Manila Bay sunset? That's a view from my office window by the way.
And this is Liway, my trusty mini laptop which I am missing right now because my sister has monopoly over her because of her final exams and papers and a lot more! Its a good thing I can blog from somewhere else, he he.
And finally, my books. Can you see that the Harry Potter and Twilight books are on the top shelf to avoid wear and tear, ha ha. (and I am sorry but I cant seem yo make this image upright)

At napansin ko, sa aking paghanap ng mga larawan na maari sa temang eto, na lahat na yata ng lugar na pinuntahan ko, ay sinigang pa din ang hanap ko. Maari ko na nga yatang sabihin na ito na ang aking pinaka paboritong ulam.

Ang sinigang na ito ay sa Mangan ng kumain kami ng aking mga kaibigan sa opisina minsang may sale sa isang groupon site.
Eto naman ay mga lahok sa sinigang na niluto na nanay ko sa bahay namin sa Montalban minsang maanyayahan namin ang aming mga kaibigan. E hindi ko na nakuhan ng larawan matapos maluto dahil pinagkaguluhan na, ha ha.
Eto naman ay sinigang sa Puerto Princesa, sa Baker's Hill. Tamang tama ang asim nyan.
Eto ang sinigang na inorder namin sa Cebu ng mag swimming kami sa Mactan.
Heto naman ang sinigang na pinaluto ko ng magpunta ang buong pamilya namin sa Boracay.
Pati na ang sinigang na hipon na ito. Ang sarap!
Ang ito ang sinigang na luto ng nanay ko ng mag swimming kami para sa birthday nya.
Eto ay sinigang na niluto ng aming bangkero ng mag island-hopping kami sa Coron.
O di ba, makita ko pa lang ang larawan ng sinigang ay alam ko na din kung kelan at saan ko ito kinunan ng larawan. Hindi lang ang asim at sarap nya ang naalala ko, maging ang mga pangyayari at masasayang alaala ng aking buhay at mga paglalakbay. Maasim man ang sinigang, masarap naman siyang bahagi ng aking buhay!

Happiness is:
1. The super fun family day at Star City last Saturday, with free ride- all-you-can tickets and P100 Star Cash.
2. Being with my whole family on this fun day: my husband and 3 kids, my sister Dianne and her husband and 2 kids, my sister Kris and my mom.
3. Surviving the Viking ride. But I wont do it again even if you pay me, ha ha.
4. Hotdog, pizza and popcorn!
5. Learning to drive our motorcycle.
6. And a patient husband who does not complain about it! (Okay he does complain but only sparingly, hi hi)
7. Lunch of camote, cheeseburger and peach mango pie, the latter items courtesy of the very sweet and very pretty, Ms. Mara.
8. Friends like Blanda, Cathy, Vangie, Jeff and Karen and my sister Dianne for the ever abundant food supplies and fun stories!
9. Bunny for the free wifi access, he he.
10. Watching Shawshank Redemption again and always finding the story very good, all the time!

List of PCSO-Accredited Hearing Aid Centers

This is a continuation of my post on How to Apply for a Hearing Aid at PCSO which I wrote last month. After my sister submitted the initial requirements here (step 1), she was given a referral letter to a doctor in UST and when we called for an appointment, we were advised to prepare three audiological reports and sealed quotations before giving us a slot. So finally we have a slot on October 17 and I will post the result of that visit separately.

Of course, I asked each of them how much are the hearing aids if we were to purchase them ourselves and the prices are much higher, from P12000 to P40000. But if we are granted the benefit by PCSO which according to them is usually P10,000, we can use it to buy one hearing aid and price for the other unit will be the same. And the good news is, requests are usually granted but it may take one, two or six months!

We were at Star City last Saturday in celebration of my company's family day. The kids and adults alike had a wonderful time! It was indeed a fun and quality time with the family and I am thankful that I work in a company that deeply support and encourage family values!

The child in all of us were once again alive as we enjoy the rides and each others company all day. We had popcorn, pizza and hotdog to sustain us and it was indeed a fun day to be a child again!

Please make being with your family a habit and an enjoyable experience because you never know when you have to sacrifice and work abroad and leave all these memories behind.

Steve Jobs, the Apple CEO died today, October 5, 2011. At only 55 years old, we can say that he lived a productive life and our world is a little better because of him. I do not own any Apple product but I know that these same products set the standards for the inventions that are yet to come.

Here are some excerpts from his commencement address to Stanford University in 2005.

"I'm pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn't been fired from Apple. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it. Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle."

3. My mom's cooking
4. Seeing my sister Kris so dedicated in her studies.
5. Top 8 and Top 5 for Danniel and Drexelle and great grades for Ishi
6. My house in Montalban was not flooded by the latest typhoon.
7. Chichacorn from Jheff
8. My new mascara from Loreal. And learning to use mascara, ha ha.
9. My Ate Dianne for her thoughtfulness and making sure to call me everyday.
10. Paying for coop loans is almost over!

I love reading. But I read several books at the same time depending on my mood and so I have books lying around everywhere in various stages of reading! And I have books in the office and at home so when a certain mood strikes me, there are instances when the book I want to read is at home while I am on break at the office or at the office when I am at home! So to satisfy my reading hunger and the need for ease in carrying them with me all the time, I want a Kindle or a Samsung Galaxy Tab for Christmas! It doesnt have to be the latest model or the latest in the market as long as I can load books and read them! My mini laptop is now with my sister so the books that I would otherwise have with me are with her, hence this wish list, ha ha! And to my Santa Claus, it doesnt have to ruin your budget or make you poor if you will read this great site: dealfun.com reviews. You can bid for these items starting now and buy these amazing items for much lesser price! I wonder if my husband will take the hint or if I should just bid for them myself and ask him for the money instead, ha ha!
