That Siam Reap-Phnom Penh-Ho Chi Min Trip

Feb 28, 2013

My first passport stamp!
It was my first time to travel abroad, and I was obviously very excited  right from the get go.  Our tickets were booked last year, around August and our 3 hotels were booked before the year ended.  We set a budget of US$400 each, enough for expenses and shopping.  We packed our bags, our passports and our cameras and we went on a crazy and fun 5N6D adventure!

Finally, we get to Cambodia before midnight. It was my first time to be outside of the country and I was a little apprehensive.  Thank goodness I was with friends who are familiar with travelling. I could not resist a photo at the airport!
sa cellphone ad talaga? hehe.
And less than 5 hours later, we get a glimpse of the famous sunrise over the Angkor Wat temple.  More on that on the next post!

Wednesday Happy Thoughts!

Feb 27, 2013

Happy Wednesday! Happiness is:
1. The super fun and wonderful Cambodia-Vietnam trip and going home to my family after!
2. The cheap finds in the night market at Pub Street, the night market in Phnom Penh and the Bin Tahn market. I wish  I had more money with me, ha ha ha.
3. The 4 hotel in 5 nights experience! So that was how that other half lives.
4. The scary but adventure-filled bus rides.
5. Seeing the Angkor Wat and other temples. Finally!
6. Riding a Tuktuk, and haggling with the fares, ha ha. I am now an expert!
7. The Vietnamese iced coffee at Bin Tahn market.
8. Getting a total of 8 stamps on my passport! Not just one, but eight, on my first trip alone!
9. Realizing I missed my family so much and that while I wish to go back to Cambodia, I want to share the experience with husband more.
10. Learning that once you see other countries and see how people live, you really, only, feel at home in you country and would never want to live anywhere else.

Enjoying Cambodia!

Feb 21, 2013

Watching the sunrise in Angkor Wat.  There were so many people and there was a swarm of mosquitos but it was indded a sight to wake up for at 330am despite having only almost 4 hours of sleep.  We had a full day of visiting temples! Despite the heat, it was so fun!  More pictures to come! We are just now having breakfast at the hotel lobby before heading out to Angkor Wat again for a 2-hour tour!

Wednesday Happy Thoughts

Feb 13, 2013

Happiness is:
1. It's just a week before my first ever out of the country trip to Cambodia! To say I am excited will be an understatement.
2. My husband, for his generosity.  Ha ha ha, thanks for the pocket money, Sweetheart!
3. My Kindle Fire for sustaining my book addiction! (Kahit di pa bayad, ha ha ha!)
4. Looking at watches in Amazon. Just looking, not buying. YET! Ha ha ha. Thanks Aryssa for this new addiction.
5. Learning a little day by day. If only my mind would not shut down when I am reading, I can finish a financial management book in record time! Ha ha ha.
6. My daily 6-7k run at the office gym and the Zumba on Tuesdays.  I just wish I get to lose some weight too and not just water weight.
7. My kids for the butterfly kisses. So sweet!
8. Danniel for being Top 2 and Ishi for being Top 6.
9. Green Tea. Starting to love it!
10. The birthday treat of my boss and office mate yesterday. It was a balanced diet: Salad, pasta, pizza, coke and dessert. Ha ha ha, they I say balanced?

Kiping it Cool In Camiguin

Feb 7, 2013

Kiping! I love sweets and when I saw these delicacies being sold at Sto Nino Cold Spring and then at Katibawasan Falls, I just have to taste them! These are Kiping, especially made in Camiguin. My first taste of them were the best!
They were being sold for P10 each and I think I had three.  It was crunchy and sweet.  Made from kamote, grounded and dried, they were like fried turon wrappers.
The sweet molasses made it even tastier! See how happy I was!
They also taste like ice cream cones! We havent had lunch, and it was already around 130 pm so the Kipings were really a life saver.
The couple who eat Kiping together, stay cool together!
You must definitely try these Kipings from Camiguin or your experience will not be complete.

36 and Loving it!

I turned 36 last Friday, February 1 and it was filled with joy.  I had a simple lunch with my friends and my sister at KFC.  We also called it a mini-reunion since we dont get to see each other much after their move to a new building.  But as with friends, despite not seeing each other after several months, it seems like yesterday. They gave me the cake which I brought home for the dinner at home with my family later.
My sister was there also, and she gave me a gift, of cash, ha ha. She paid me for the blouse I bought as her gift to me. Ang sweet di ba? Oh and  my friend Karen who now works in Qatar and who should have been in the photo called to greet me. And I had lots of greetings on Facebook, Twitter, email and texts! Sweet!
At the office, we had four party sized pizza on the following Monday since everybody else was on training or on conference. It was so good, since we were all on diet.  But we forget the diet for the birthday celebration, making the pizza tastes more sumptuous!

And they gave me this wonderful gift: the prosperity charm bracelet that I have been wanting to be gifted since last year.  It will work on me, I can feel it, ha ha.  Meaning, more money for travel. Ha ha. Not in the picture are the dollars for my Cambodia fund! It is now safely inside my wallet, ha ha.

Of course, the highlight of my birthday was my dinner with the family.  We had the cake (from my friends) and some left over KFC chicken from lunch, and the spaghetti which I cooked.  We also had ice cream, given by my brother in law, and then my husband and I had champagne while I have my legs draped on his, and the kids were laughing at us tangled like that.
It was a great birthday celebration.  I had everything that I love around me, and I know that I am loved.  That is a lot more than I wished for, and I am indeed lucky to have all of these.  I am 36, and loving every minute of it! (And in case you are wondering why my husband do not have gift for me, well, pocket money for my Cambodia trip is gift #1, and gift #2 is the Kindle that he will "help"pay, ha ha ha).

Happiness is:
1. My blog is restored and visible to everyone again!

3. I now have a Kindle! Not yet paid, but I am working on it or rather I am working on my husband to pay for it, hahaha.
4. No classes for the kids since Tuesday because the teachers are on a tour.  They will have to go to school on Saturdays of this month, but it is still a relief to not wake up early.
5. I still cant believe that I was able to set foot in Mindanao already.
6. My coming trip to Cambodia in just two weeks. Excited!
7. Additional dollars to the Cambodia fund, thanks to my bosses!
8. My prosperity charm bracelet.  It is working because my blog is up again, and it means more income.
9. Coffee and crackers in the morning.
10. Zumba and my daily 6.7K run for losing weight (though I am not losing any!)
